Carving Pumpkins

In our house, we don’t celebrate Halloween, but we do enjoy many fall traditions, including carving pumpkins! Somehow, I’ve been delegated to the position of “Offical Goop Remover”. Next year, that’s all gonna change!

LM put a lot of thought into his design.

He was very serious about his carving.

Yeah, right.

LM’s pumpkin creation!

When I picked up this pumpkin, my fingers went through several places that were rotting. I had to think fast and find a design that would cover up the holes. Um, it’s patriotic, so that counts, right?
Scout and Jonah requested a pumpkin.
When I grew tired of carving, we attempted the wipe-on transfer idea:

With a Mr. Potato Head in the back.
All aglow.

  1. OMG, I totally love the patriotic one! It’s so awesome all aglow. My bf’s birthday is right before Halloween, so he has a tradition of carving pumpkins at least once a week during the month of October. Yikes! And I have two little girls, so that equates to two pumpkins per week. Oh, golly. We bought stencil kits at the store; some are so complicated! But, they come out beautifully, so whatever. The kids have SO much fun, even though I am dying for it to just all be over.

  4. wow, I didn’t really think they were all that awesome, but thanks!! (google “free pumpkin templates” and you’ll find all sorts of good ideas!)And Jules, I figure if LM isn’t going to mow the yard, the least he can do is deal with the goop. But I know you love it, so maybe you two can just do it together?!

  5. Those ARE awesome. Anything that gets the family to do something together is awesome, and so are the results. We celebrate “Pumpkin Patch” (what they call it at church). We did mini-pumpkins but only “carved” them with Sharpies. Not quite the same without being able to light them up. :-)- Texas T-bone

  6. Beautiful! I told Katrina that we’ve never carved a pumpkin, but after seeing your creations and her’s yesterday, it’s made me wish that we had! So, it’s on my list for next year 🙂
